Expansion Bellows
Flexible Bellows, also known as Expansion Joints, are flexible elements that absorb movements in the pipe system. These movements they absorb are defined by axial, lateral, angular and universal movements.
Rubber bellows can be used on a number of different applications but are most often found on chillers and pumps to help reduce noise and vibration. You usually would choose between tied and un-tied bellows. Bellows that are fitted with metal bars joining two flanges would be referred to as tied bellows. Whereas the un-tied version would be a loose fitting bellows that has no metal bars joining the two flanges.
Tied bellows are used to mitigate lateral movement whereas Un-tied bellows are generally used to mitigate axial movement when pressure thrust can be handled.
